Kristen Leigh Baker is a contemporary artist specializing in patented, wall-dependent sculptures of tactile sensory assemblage. Breaking the traditional boundaries between painting, sculpture, and architecture, her dimensional works feature intricately layered, ethically sourced plumage, hand-tied suede, and structural Lucite and driftwood elements.
Artist Statement
"My artistic practice is an exploration of sensory weight, spatial intuition, and delicate resilience. This obsession with form and environment has been a part of me since childhood, rooted in an early fascination with interior architecture and space. My creative foundation was further built through academic studies in ceramics, metalsmithing, and fine arts, followed by a twenty-year career as a makeup artist and hair stylist within the high-fashion and entertainment industries of Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Minneapolis. This immersion in elite visual styling fundamentally shaped my mastery of color theory, texture, and three-dimensional balance.
Since beginning my professional artwork career in 2013, my creative process has undergone a profound evolution. While my early years were dedicated to exploring organic forms on traditional canvas, a deeper obsession with structural dimension led me to dream up an entirely innovative, patented approach to physical space.
Feathers—timeless, resilient, yet ethereal—serve as the core medium of my work, with each element acting as an archival treasure or a natural fingerprint. By anchoring ethically sourced plumage, suede, and crystals to modernist Lucite or weathered driftwood bars, my work moves away from traditional framed art to become an architectural intervention. Each original sculpture is an intentional, highly meticulous execution of material precision and structural balance. Designed to stand alone or breathe as a multi-piece gallery installation, these tactile works invite deep conversation and transform the modern wall into an active sensory experience."
